Wood – sustainability from root to fiber
Wood and recycling – a sustainable combination
On average, 80% of our paper consists of recycled waste paper. The fibers that can no longer be used from waste paper are filled with fresh wood.
To this end, we work together with sawmills: They supply us with their residual wood and wood waste that they cannot use for production or that accumulates during their manufacturing processes.
A further proportion comes from regional forestry, where the forests are thinned and cleared of old wood. We process some of these felled trees into high-quality paper. This keeps the natural cycle intact and the forest healthy.

Forests in growth
Our wood comes from certified, sustainable sources in the region. There is a myth that wood from the rainforest is used for local paper production – this is definitely not the case. We rely exclusively on responsibly managed forests that are regularly thinned to keep them healthy and strong.
More information on agriculture and forestry in Switzerland is available from the Federal Statistical Office.
From wood chips to pulp
In our Thermo Mechanical Pulp (TMP) plant with the impressive “Moulin Rouge” mill, wood chips are processed into paper pulp using heat (thermal) and friction (mechanical). In addition to the pulp, the process also generates heat, which we convert into steam and use directly on the paper machines to dry the paper webs.
