Our mission: minimum emissions

Sustainability is at the heart of our work. At Perlen Papier we align our business activities with economically, ecologically and socially sustainable criteria and make a relevant contribution to the circular economy.

Our measures for a sustainable future

Our sustainability strategy permeates all our processes and decisions. From the respectful treatment of our employees and their development to the resource-conserving extraction and production of our papers. We strive to use all resources and raw materials carefully and efficiently and to make our contribution to the circular economy.

Social sustainability

With our headquarters in Central Switzerland and over 150 years of history Perlen Papier is an integral part of the local economy and community at Perlen. As the largest recovered paper recycler in Switzerland, we make a significant contribution to a sustainable future for the country and a positive contribution to society and the environment.

Employees

Our business success is largely determined by the knowledge, skills and motivation of our employees. Accordingly, we treat them with respect and responsibility.

We meet basic international labor standards and comply with national and local labor and safety laws and regulations.

Vocational training

Vocational training is an important success factor in maintaining the long-term competitiveness of companies and the economy with qualified professionals and attracting new employees. With this commitment to basic vocational training, we are assuming social responsibility.

We train around 30 apprentices in eight different professions.

Wage policy and equal pay

We pursue a fair, transparent and comprehensible wage policy that is locally and regionally oriented and based on market-driven wages. We comply with the Collective Labor Agreement (CLA) of the Swiss paper industry (SPKF).

Perlen Papier stands for equal pay, which was also confirmed by an external auditor in 2024. We also check annually whether salaries are in line with the market. This ensures that all employees receive an appropriate salary.

Occupational health and safety

The health and safety of our employees is our top priority. We have our own safety officer and trained first-aid staff. We regularly train our employees to recognize hazards and prevent accidents. Our aim is to prevent all accidents.

In the event of professional or private challenges, our employees are supported by an external company social counseling service.

CIP

The Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) has been used to identify and implement process optimization and cost savings for over 20 years. Every idea counts when it comes to optimizing processes, saving energy, protecting the environment and resources, increasing occupational safety and improving the working atmosphere.

Thousands of suggestions for improvement and initiatives from employees have already been received and implemented.

Ecology

The avoidance and reduction of emissions, waste and waste water as well as the efficient use of energy and raw materials has been a key factor in our planning and decision-making for many years.

Since 2013, we have reduced our CO₂ emissions by an impressive 88%. This success is the result of our consistent commitment to renewable energies and the reduction of fossil fuels.

Today, we produce paper with a 76% smaller carbon footprint than the industry average (source: Ten Toes). In addition, customers can opt for CO₂-free paper types by making a financial climate contribution.
